The Manta Ray distributes the load, but does not control the bar for you like a machine. Even though some people find it very stable you still have to use your hands to grip the bar and use your arms to keep the bar up on your body, just like squatting without the device. And, like any other piece of gym equipment, you should inspect it before each use, for any kind of deterioration and take it out of service if any is found.
